The Pirate Island !!!

Écrit le mardi 7 avril 2009 by Unknown

After a long trip in rough seas in southern Australia, we cast anchor on Kangaroo Island ...
Raise the flag, the exploration can begin.

Kangaroo Island is an island found at the time by an Englishman (north coast) and French (Nicolas Baudin for the south coast) at the time it does not support them ... These two got along well ... Finally, the island is under the English, but there are few names that ear Bretons.

Newly arrived on the island, we go to the information center, we decided to explore the island in the opposite direction clockwise.

This island, despite its appearance reveals many surprises ...

Pelicans of the American River, which live in marshy bay, but also on the dock landing fish.

A few hours and hundreds of photos later, it falls on a salt lake - dry - they are numerous on the island. Indeed, one of the main problems of the island, the water resource. The lower roof is connected to a tank recovery of rain water. The salinity of rain poses major problems on the vegetation that eventually perish.

On the north coast, Emu Bay, a large white sand beach and clear blue water. Again, meeting with the cormorant foot and Ligurian bees. The Ligurian bees was imported to the island from Italy. Today, the island remains the only place in the world where it exists ... it is prohibited to import on the island of honey and beekeeping equipment from the continent not to upset the delicate balance.

Different places to visit are linked by small roads in the ground on which a 4x4 s'éclate surely, but a van a little less ... it has allowed us to meet a Goanna (Australia Varan closely linked to Aboriginal culture).

After 30km of track, we arrive at Stokes bay and its beach hidden ... There is a path-shaped cave in the rocks. The secret way opens onto a new track on a white sand and water more clear with a natural swimming pool. We decided to stay the night and enjoy the place.

The morning swimming in the waves and currents ... a strange meet. While I have fun in the waves, a black spot moving to the bottom intrigues me ... a shark? No, head out of the water, it was in fact a seal.

There is a national park on the island where you can find koalas and platypus (I let you look, it is cute and rare). But the park burned in a fire in December 2007.

Finally, we migrates in the south of the island, the cape Couedic ... we can found a large furh seal colony. The landscape, in addition to a name in consonance Bretonne it looks strange. A few kilometers away, a rock formation, remarkable rock!

we continues the exploration of the Southern region by Hanson Bay and the Vivonne Bay. Cape Kersaint. Still beautiful beaches, beautiful walks in the sea forest.

A curiosity of the island, Little Sahara ... a geological formation that dates back to very long. It is a desert ... amazing!

The next day, after a night in the desert, direction seal bay ... The bay contains a large seal colony in Australia, but the entry to $ 28 we have to turn ... on the beach next door and then climbing a little never hurt anyone ... I saw one finally !!

The following days were reserved for walks on the coast and especially the arrival of penguins on the island once again ... pay ... it took ruser.

In short, a stay on the island rich in wildlife encounters and a little sports ... Today, I have difficulty in my back ... Well done!

Take care
